MANILA, Philippines – Three barangay officials who were kidnapped in Zamboanga del Norte have been freed by their captors.
According to a DZMM report, councilors Rudy Niehos and Buboy Niehos, and barangay treasurer Joseph Niehos were abducted by unknown assailants from New Dapitan, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte after attending a meeting with a local candidate.
The suspects, who were wearing bonnets to hide their identities, made the victims ride a vehicle marked “PNP”.
Investigators are looking at politics as the motive for the abduction.
Gutalac Vice Mayor Lolito Miraveles said despite the release of the three, they are still going to file a case against a police official who was allegedly involved in the incident.
